Creative Services

YOUR WORK IS ALREADY SAYING SOMETHING. LET’S LISTEN.

A writer can know exactly what they mean and still discover that a reader has experienced something entirely different.

I’m interested in that space between intention and reception.

Juniper Creative offers developmental editing, creative consultation, and document design for writers who want to understand their work more deeply—not simply be told how to “fix” it.

My job isn’t to turn your work into something I would have written. It’s to pay very close attention to what you have already made, ask good questions, and help you see the possibilities that are already there.

THE SERVICES

Every project is a little different.

Depending on what you’re working on and what the work needs, our project might include developmental editing, a detailed editorial packet, document design—or some combination of all three.

I tailor the scope of the work to the project rather than fitting every writer into the same package. Here’s what that can look like.

DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING

Developmental editing asks bigger questions than proofreading or correcting sentences.

What is this work trying to do?

How is it structured? Where does it move—and where does it stall? What patterns are emerging across the manuscript? What does the reader understand that you may not realize you’ve communicated? Where does the work need more? Where might it actually need less?

When I work with a manuscript, I’m interested in both the individual language on the page and the architecture created when those individual pieces begin speaking to one another.

Depending on the project, I may trace patterns across the manuscript, talk through structure and sequencing, explain the craft concepts behind my questions, recommend writers or books to explore, develop exercises or prompts, or identify submission possibilities when publication is part of your goal.

I don’t prescribe revisions.

I show you what I’m seeing, tell you where I’m curious, ask questions, identify possibilities, and make my own experience of reading the work visible.

Then we talk about it.

THE EDITORIAL PACKET

You will not simply get a manuscript back covered in comments.

For larger developmental projects, I create a detailed editorial packet that steps back from individual lines and considers the work as a whole.

Your packet may include an editorial letter, close readings, notes on recurring patterns or questions, craft discussion, revision possibilities, reading recommendations, resources, prompts, and other materials tailored to your project.

And then we sit down together. This conversation is one of my favorite parts of the process!

I want you to tell me why a choice matters. I want to hear what you thought you were doing and compare that with what I experienced as a reader. Sometimes that confirms that something needs revision. Sometimes you explain a choice and I see the work differently. Sometimes my suggestion is wrong. And sometimes we discover a third possibility neither of us could see when we started.

That’s the good stuff.

DOCUMENT DESIGN

Eventually, the work has to leave your hands.

A manuscript still has to become a document another human being can navigate. I help writers prepare work for that moment through manuscript design, submission preparation, query materials, and other project-specific support.

I genuinely love document design.

Presentation is part of communication. Typography, spacing, organization, hierarchy, and even the way a reader moves through a page affect how the work is received.

The container should serve the work—not distract from it.

WHO I LOVE WORKING WITH

My ideal client is someone who wants to show up.

You do not need to bring me a perfectly polished manuscript. You do not need to know exactly what you’re doing. You can be excited, scared, uncertain, hopeful—or all four before lunch.

I love working with writers who are a little wide-eyed about their own work. Writers who know there is something inside it they haven’t quite discovered yet. What matters to me is curiosity, openness, and humility.

I want you to care deeply about what you are making while remaining willing to let it surprise you. I want you to be able to hear another interpretation and become curious about it rather than assuming either of us must immediately be right.

And I want you to feel safe being vulnerable here.

Sharing creative work can be incredibly exposing. I take seriously the trust involved when another person hands me something they made and asks me to look closely.

My job is never to make you feel small in order to demonstrate what I know.

I want you to leave more excited about your work—and more confident in your ability to shape it—than when you arrived.

PRICING & PROJECTS

No two manuscripts need quite the same thing.

Because the scope of my work varies by project, I don’t use one-size-fits-all packages or flat pricing across manuscripts. After you complete the short intake form below, I’ll take a look at what you’re working on, what kind of support you’re looking for, and the scope of the project.

From there, I’ll recommend an approach and provide a clear project quote. If we decide to work together, you’ll receive a scope-of-work agreement outlining exactly what the project includes, the timeline, deliverables, and total cost—so we both know what to expect before the work begins.

A deposit is required to reserve your project and begin services, with the remaining payment schedule outlined in your agreement.

Filling out the form isn’t a commitment. It’s just a place to start the conversation.

BRING ME THE WORK.

Tell me what you’re making. Tell me where you are with it. Tell me what’s keeping you up at night—or what you can’t stop thinking about.

You don’t need to know exactly what kind of editorial support you need. That’s something we can figure out together.

Start with the short form below. I’ll take it from there.
